Puttin' on my Winter Coat

Halloween is over, and that brings me to one of my favorite days of the year.
Forget Black Friday, I’m talking about the day after Halloween when all the Halloween candy goes on sale. I hit WalMart early on Saturday morning, November 1, and the shelves were picked clean. A flock of vultures couldn’t have picked it cleaner. I thought my dreams of chocolate laden goodness were going to be dashed for another year, but then as an afterthought, I figgered I’d try Target. I hit pay dirt there. They had aisles and aisles of discounted confections. I got KitKats, I got Snickers with Almonds, I got Reese’s Cups…all at 50% off! I really stocked up. I even wrestled an elderly lady for the last bag of Twix bars. I did it for her own good, she looked borderline diabetic to me. Okay, that last part wasn’t true but I would’ve if it had come to that. Shirley told me I had a crazed look in my eye!!

I’d like to say I’m going to share this with my friends and family, but if I said that, I’d be lying. I even have to suppress the growls and fang-bearing whenever Shirley asks me for a Heath bar! I know, I’ll make myself sick, but I can’t help it, it is a sickness. Seldom do the elements of life so align themselves with the forces of good, I mean, how often can you get a mountain of candy at discounted prices?

So for the next few days, I’m gonna eat and eat and eat some more, and maybe add to my “winter coat” as they refer to the extra fat that we put on for the upcoming lean winter months. So, don’t you all out there be coveting my candy bars, or I’ll cyber-growl at you.

It'd be funnier if it weren't so true! You really did growl at me yesterday.... tee hee

Apparently you are a man who loves candy! So do I. Your post reminded me of Paps childhood. He said they never did get candy much-but when they did they would eat it all at once and then get sick. They just couldn't bring themselves to try and make it last. I won't be bothering your candy-so no growls!

You can have them, Matthew. You should see the leftovers we have from Halloween night. But I will confess I did buy 2 50% off bags of York Peppermint Patty Pumpkins. I love peppermint patties (high in sugar, but low in fat)!

Janet,
We only has 4 trick or treaters, which is 3 more than we usually get, so we didn't buy much candy beforehand. Just a cheap bag of dumdum pops.

I love peppermint patties too. Didn't see any of them in the discount aisles.

Does it show that we never got tons and tons of candy for Halloween when I was growing up or what. I'm making up for lost time.

Darn. I can't have it in the house because of Larry's diabetes--he loves candy so it's nt fair to tempt him.

We weren't home this year for trick or treat, but we've been giving our dollar bills to the 3 or 4 kids who show up. It's better for us than buying lots of candy which we then have sitting around begging us to eat it. We could use you, Matthew!

Love this post! I can relate to it totally! My problem usually arises BEFORE Halloween when I buy the candy too early, eat it all, and have to go buy more. :-) Not very frugal of me, I can see--I should try your method of getting a sugar coma! :-)

Matthew, by the way, I am at a different computer these last couple of days (and it's acting up!) and couldn't post this weeks My World Tuesdays! Please check for it next week! You're going to like it and the next one! Take care!
